Fast bowling IS an absolute gift, I 100% agree with you Geoff, that is why they are so rare. (and few and far inbetwen)
THE TRUE FAST BOWLER = The TYSON, The THOMSON (73-75) The HOLDING. I know Geoff really rates Michael Holding as the rolls royce of fast bowlers but in my humble opinion I think Thomson and Tyson just ahead of SA of Pakistan were truely gifted with pace.
Also the really express bowlers are not always the greatest and best fast bowlers say like a Trueman or Lillee.
It really is a rare gift, is express fast bowling. The indian bowlers do TRY their very best.
I think the best way to bowl fast and you can try it for your self is to SLING THE ARM when you bowl. Even from a short, simple ambling run up you can bowl really fast by slinging the ball over like a Thomson, SA, say Taite and M.Johnston to a lesser degree.
The bowling action of say a Thomson is also the safest, most injury free way to bowl,(just avoid alan Turner) as it has been proven, to say a Lillee (who nearly wrecked his back for good) and countless other fast bowlers.
What made it impossible for Geoff and all batsman to handle Thomson (at times) was his side on slinging action made it very difficult for batsman to actually see where the ball was just before release as it got caught, (got lost-went missing) behind him in that action.
I know Geoff won’t agree with me but I think Jeff Thomson just beats Holding as the fastest bowler, at least since Tyson.
all the best everyone,
DEAN MEASOR.
