Hemsworth Grammar School Pupil’s Report Book

This fascinating document is a complete record of GB’s reports from his days at Hemsworth Grammar School. The first, from July 1954, carries the comment, “He can talk fluently, but does not always prove that he can.” Obviously something that the young Geoffrey made a special effort to improve on. Comments through out the report indicate a fairly hard working pupil of good standard, though his lateness for lessons is commented on occasionally. The Headmaster’s Final report, “He has done well. Record of work and progress, on the whole, very satisfactory. Sports record is very good indeed.”

Yorkshire v Warwickshire - Innings Chart. Headingly 17th July 1982

This delightful diagram, of Boycott’s 152 not out v Warwickshire in 1982, was sent to GB by Anne Tunnicliffe of Chester. Her letter explains everything: “ Dear Geoff, I enclose a chart of your innings against Warwickshire which should give you some idea of where you scored your runs. That is not to say you did not know exactly what you were doing! I hope you find it of interest and should also like to thank you for the entertainment you gave my husband and I on that day and indeed on many others. Unfortunately you had started your innings this morning before we arrived, but I wish you the best of luck for the rest of the day and for Wednesday, Yours, Anne Tunnicliffe”
